Prayer for our new President
This is my Prayer for our new President. Won’t you join me?
Lord, we have been given a Biblical command to “diligently pray for those in authority?” (I Tim 2:1-2).
So, we lift up our President-Elect, Barak Obama.
Father, we thank you that our nation has come to the place where we could overcome the racism, bigotry
and hatred that has cursed our nation, allowing us to finally elect our first black President. The world is
watching the United States and we are grateful that they were able to witness this historic moment.
We lift up the Obama family to you, Lord. We ask that you bless them with wisdom, peace, unity, protection,
a fear of the Lord and an insatiable hunger and thirst for righteousness and for Your Word. The Bible
commands us to honor those in authority and so we pray that eve those who opposed Obama will now show
him the dignity and honor due to the leader of the greatest nation on Earth. We pray that you will lead people
to his side that will support him, help him, bless him, and give him wise counsel. We thank you for favor upon
him and that your blessings would overtake him.
May those who voted for Barak Obama use the same passion and energy used to help get him elected to now
oppose his views on abortion. For he has promised, as President, to sign the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA)
which will strip the United States of almost all of its current restrictions on abortion and ensure the sanctioned
murder of millions of babies. Father, we realize that the future of all American children is at stake if we allow
our leaders to make the murder of babies accessible and easy in our nation. Forbid this, dear God! For our new
President to be blessed, we understand that he must remain blessable. We know that, according to Scripture,
listed among the things that you hate (Prov 6:17), “hands that kill the innocent” is ranked among that list. Let us
not be so prideful and rebellious as to think that our righteous Father will not react to our approval of these murders.
Have mercy, oh, God!
Help us, Father, to remember that, no matter who we voted for, our first responsibility is to build the Kingdom
of God on the Earth. May your people remain focused on preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom to those with
whom we make Divine connections. Help us to focus your energies on our life assignment and abandon ourselves
to the will of God. Whatever the political future of the United States may be, let our message to a world that needs
Jesus be to love God and love one another, including the unborn.
We pray this in the Mighty Name of Jesus of Nazareth. Amen.
