A brief letter sure to bless

The following letter was forwarded to me from David Servant’s ministry, written from Timotheo in Kenya amidst all the recent civil unrest there. It really blessed me! I think it shows how effective House Churches CAN be if only we can get away from our “living room liturgies” and man-made and even demonically-inspired doctrine within the House Church movement. I refuse to believe that The Church was ever intended to merely share an hour or so each week staring at the backs of eachother’s heads and listening to one man’s opinion on matters of faith. No, we are to share our lives as a warring clan. When we gather, we can dialogue on the things of God while exercising our spiritual gifts, everybody bringing something, not merely coming “to be fed.” These Kenyan brethren have learned that “The Church” isn’t somewhere we go; it’s something we are. Here’s Timotheo:

I am at the Kachbora refugee camp as I write this letter to you. There are more than 1,000 people in this camp who were displaced due to violence, their houses torched, close relatives killed, some lost members of their families. But I have one strong testimony to share.

There are more than 120 people here who were believers in the house churches you helped us start. These people had learnt to live as a family. One of the members came from the tribe that was attacking people here, and because of his love for other believers, he told us that a plot was being planned to torch houses and requested all of us to pray together. Every house church prayed and we felt we should all leave….

One amazing thing is that, the attackers didn’t burn anything that belonged to any of their friends or a friend of one of their tribes, so our houses stayed intact. No house burnt that belongs to the believers in our house churches.

Though we can’t go back now due to increasing violence and killings, and also if we are seen in the region it will ignite anger, but we thank God that our property is safe.

In other churches, even church members were burning houses that belonged to their fellow members, but we had learnt to live like family.

The books you gave to us written by Rev. David Servant, taught us to live to gether, we studied together, ate together, and read the bible together and we are here at the camp again as a family and slowly but sure we are preaching reconciliation here at camp. Also thanks for the relief food you brought to our people. Also tell David Servant thank you, we love him and are always praying for him for touching our lives with his book.

Amen,

Yours in the Lord

Timotheo Mahero
