PRayer support requested: KENYA

A dear brother from Kenya, a man named Gideon, has just written me regarding the terrible civil unrest that’s been taking place there in recent days.

He has asked that I request your prayers for this nation. Others from Kenya are also pleading that we pray. Surely, you have heard about this on the  news.

Gideon writes:

“Dear Brother Mike, Thanks so much for joining us in prayers for this nation. Truly, much has happened that was not expected. Our politians have betrayed us in unbelievable way. Kenya has been the most peaceful and democratic nation in the whole of Africa.

“Many people have lost there lives, though the government is covering up the truth from the international world, but the truth is thousands have lost there lives, more than 200,000 people displaced and their properties burned. Most of our people are not sleeping in their houses for fear of being attacked at the night. This has been the most trying moments for us, living in fear not knowing what may come about. Your prayers are so much needed. Many houses have been torched some churches, many vehicles and much looting. The nation of Kenya has been taken 20 years back and it will cost us heavily to rebuild what we have lost. The major problem is that the tribes have been set against each other and the people from the presidents tribe have been killed in big numbers. Hatred is likely to continue for many years to come and likely resulting to a problem that Rwanda faced. For the first time in my life, I saw a church set burnt with more than 200 people inside.

“The greatest problem people in Kenya are facing now is food. The roads are blocked and now no one can risk to transport good from one town to another, The stores are without food and the few that do have increased their prices even ten times more than the normal price. Already people are starving as they can not afford this. many people fleeing from the affected areas are running to camp at our churches and the police station and expecting help from us. We do not know what to do. But God has a way.

“Please let the church and the people you know continue praying for this nation. For the first time I had people say they regret to be Kenyans. But we are encouraged and know that God has a plan for all of this.”

May God bless

Pastor Gideon

Another Kenyan brother, Benedict, wrote:

“Dear my Father…the stuation has worsened here in Kenya after the last general election and so cvil war has erupted in all corners of the country thus everything has become to stand still, businesses and travel from one place to onother has been cancelled, roads from town to town has been blocked and so we are challenged by famine that is facing us at this time. Unfortunately, we dont know how long this may take, kenya is banking on european communion and US and other diplomats to assist. Kindly I request you to pray for the church in Kenya. Some of our church members have fled to  the villages for their safety. If the situation will worsen then the church will be affected.  Pray to  God to keep his church.”

blessings,

Ben

    Mike et al,

Just a quick note that another ministry is corroborating these reports at http://lifestream.org/blog/?p=505 . Note that this ministry has three avenues for providing financial support to those suffering in/around Kenya.

Prayer is much more effective, but financial aid will provide some help to the suffering. May God bless all those in distress in Kenya, India, and all the other places we don’t hear about!!

    Robin
