Crazy Notion: The Immigration Nation

September 5th, 2007 by admin | Print

Something just occurred to me.I’m almost embarrassed to broadcast this idea since it’s so contrary to what all the

conservative pundits and talk-show hosts are saying.

(Sigh.)

Here goes nuthin’.

What if Almighty God is bringing all those “illegal”people into our nation

so that we who say we know Christ can share our faith and make disciples of

them?

I know, I know. I’m well-acquainted with the impact they’re having on our society

and economy and security and, no, it does NOT look good in the natural. But I’m

basing this crazy notion on some of God’s past history with mankind. He has

shown some extremely creative ways of getting the Gospel out to entire nations

in the past; why should modern America be any different? Maybe He LOVES those

illegals enough to expose them to the American Church?

We all know how Israel went from being a bunch of slaves to a full-fledged nation.

We certainly remember some once-powerful nations throughout history that are no

longer anywhere to be found. Here’s another example: In China, between 1949 and

the mid 1980’s, Christians were actively persecuted by the government. Church

leaders of all denominations were imprisoned and even killed. That left women -

with no education or leadership skills - to continue.  First Corinthians 1:27 springs

to mind. Although foreign missionaries and money were kept out all that time, it’s

estimated that 60 MILLION people came to Christ during that period with 25,000

converting daily even today! The Church went underground. Lay leaders emerged

and the Church was FORCED to completely depend upon the Holy Spirit. Other

nations have similar stories to tell.

When I was in Bible College in the mid-80’s, a teacher from South Africa gave

a prophetic heads-up: “The Muslims are coming!” he said. I rolled my eyes in

disbelief. Personally, I knew of no one from the Middle East at that time in

Arlington, Texas. These days, the city is crawling with these people. I once wrote

a tract entitled, “What God wants Muslims to know about Christianity,” a

loving, non-confrontational, thought-provoking piece, and mailed it to every

Middle Eastern sounding name in the Arlington phone book. I got all the way up

to the letter “K” when God blessed me with a free computer. Now, I have this

online ministry that has reached millions (www.YourTown4Jesus.com) since 1999.

If we’re faithful with the little things, God makes us rulers over much. I read that

somewhere. Quite sobering.

Is the Holy Spirit sending illegals across our borders so that America’s Church

can share Christ with them? Are we doing that (or are we waiting for them to

sneak across the borders of our churches to hear our very-American pastor

preach?)? If not, what are we afraid of? Has our God given us a Spirit of Fear?

NO! According to 2 Timothy 1:7, He has given us Power (the Holy Spirit), Love

(Agape Love), and a Sound Mind (the Mind of Christ).

Speaking of the mind, it’s been said that the “imagi-nation” is the largest nation

on earth - and far too many Christians live there. The word “repent” means,

literally, “to change one’s mind.” This line of thinking goes against my ”Born in the

USA” grain, too. But when I consider that we are ALL aliens here , just passing

through, and what our Great Commission is, given to us by Jesus Himself, suddenly,

the whole alien issue begins falling apart. Folks, I’m as patriotic as the next guy, but

our God is NOT an American. We had all better be Christians (literally meaning

“Little Christs”) FIRST and Americans SECOND. Let’s try and grasp the mind of

Christ on this issue. Let’s seek God’s perspective and ask His will.

Contrary to popular thought, there are NOT merely two sides to every coin.

Besides the “Head”and the “Tail,” there remains the “SIDE.” Is that God’s side?

If so, isn’t that Whose side we should be on?
Just thinking.

Every blessing,
Michael Tummillo,

An American whose ancestors were once aliens here

and A servant of God
