DID YOU KNOW…
A few weeks ago, I was contacted by the San Antonio Christian Business Chamber
of Commerce. They were interested in learning about me for consideration regarding
a possible speaking engagement in August. That same day, someone from the Baptist
General Convention wrote requesting information as well. I began putting together a
resume of sorts, for both parties, complete with testimonials. As I was listing my
associations and certifications, things that many in The Church still require, I included:
Circuit Preachers International (CPI).
Now, I’m not saying it added any weight to anybody’s decision. But I AM saying that
it certainly didn’t hurt.
Who, or what, IS CPI?
CPI is a loosely-knit organization of traveling (itinerant) ministers that I had the privilege
of meeting at a conference several months ago in Riverside, CA. These people
impacted my life in a way that it had not been impacted in a very long time. Never
before had I met so many people who had, in most cases, laid down everything this
world had to offer out of a passion for serving Christ Jesus and advancing His Kingdom.
Several of those in attendance have been criss-crossing the planet, as the Spirit leads,
for over 20 years. Extraordinary! Some were practically living out of their cars and RV’s,
trusting God’s providence for their next meal and their next ministry opportunity. These
weren’t religious oddballs. On the contrary, they were sharp, articulate, witty, gifted people
who are sold-out to the cause of Christ. Most of these modern-day apostles were equipped
with some high-tech gadgets that enabled them to stay in touch as they travel. Yet, each
was trusting in God, willing to spend $500 in gas for an opportunity to preach despite The
Church mustering, perhaps, a $50 offering.
Do YOU know anyone who fits this description? Might your Church leaders be aware
of any such individuals who could benefit from this level of fellowship? The group has
committed to a first Saturday-of-the-month Conference Call and a website is in development,
a place where each Itinerant can cross-promote, post encouraging messages and chat with
other Circuit preachers and network. The organization may lend some credence to their
ministry in the eyes of those who cannot conceive of a person being in ministry who is not
affiliated with an Institutional Church.
It worked for me! As I said, it didn’t hurt.
If you know anyone like this, have them contact me immediately. It will cost them nothing
to take part. If you know any other traveling ministers, make them aware of this group.
Remind them to despise not our humble beginnings…please?
By the way, if you (A) need a guest speaker or (B) have accommodations that you’re
willing to make available in case anyone passes your way, thank you for making that
known as well!
Every blessing,
Michael Tummillo
A servant of God
